Either way is good for you, but whenever i take a cold shower moobear after a workout i always feel like im going to have a heart attack because Registered User my body freaks out! However, when I take a hot shower, after I am done I Joined: Sunday, 13th of June 2010, 04:13:50 sweat a lot because my core temperature is still so hot! Cold = vasoconstriction (limiting blood flow) & hot = muffin cakes vasodilation (opening blood flow). Cold is ''believed'' generally better Registered User for you within a short time (minutes) after an intense workout. Some Joined: Sunday, 30th of May 2010, 02:41:24 people take this to the extreme & do ice water baths after they work out. Posts: 807 This has a few known benefits such as reduction of swelling (inflammation) Viewed 4128 times & numbing of pain receptors. It is known that exercise stresses muscle &
connective tissue which causes microtears & inflammation. Cold can help
with reducing that inflammation reducing the pain, toxins, & stress on the
surrounding tissue. But, blood flow is needed later to remove waste &
toxins, promote healing, & regrowth into stronger tissue. Heat can help
promote blood flow through vasodilation.
You need to be careful of a few things concerning usage of cold & heat.
Cold makes tissue stiff & reduces swelling, both good (lubricating) & bad
(inflammatory). It is very easy to injure tissue once it is cold so
movement needs to be very careful & limited. Heat can cause inflammation,
so painful swelling & arthritic cases may want to avoid heat application.
If you are going to apply cold, I think the general best practice is to do
so within minutes after ur workout & cooldown. Several hours later, heat is
generally applied. I recommend cold showers but nothing too extreme. Heat
later that evening & next day.
